The vision and purpose for this church in the Salinas Valley was birthed out of a desire to have more of the same kind of Cowboy Church that Salinas proudly presents to the community during the Salinas Rodeo. It was our desire to have Cowboy Church more than once a year, henceforth; our monthly Cowboy Church was founded.

Like the Salinas Rodeo Cowboy Church, we wanted to hold our meetings in a place where the cowboy and the country folk would feel comfortable and at home in; an environment where they could fit in and belong. A non-formal place where they could feel relaxed coming dressed just as they are, dirty jeans, hat and with country stuff on their boots.

Our vision is to provide an "outreach" to reach the western world who otherwise might not be reached by a conventional church lead by a pastor in a 3 piece suit. Our cowboy preachers are "one of them", relating the gospel to their lifestyle and not talking to them in the King James language.

Another purpose to have a monthly Cowboy Church was to provide a consistent established location and meeting where traveling cowboy preachers and Christian country singers could minister when traveling through our area.

Even though this is an "outreach" meeting, we still call it Cowboy Church because church does not mean a denomination, religion or a building. It also does not mean a weekly Sunday morning service. Church means "people"; any group of people getting together at anytime, anywhere, to worship and praise the Lord and to learn how to be disciples of Christ, "Christians". We put the word Cowboy before the word Church because this is our outreach, the kind of people we are trying to reach even though cowboy church is not just for cowboys. Cowboy Church is open to anyone who wants to attend. My husband attends in his "work clothes", which is a suit, white shirt and tie, so everyone is welcome, even businessmen.

If you want to be a part of this movement of the Lord in the cowboy community of the Salinas Valley, we welcome you to come to the Salinas Cowboy Church the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM in the Rodeo Room at the Salinas Rodeo Grounds.
