10th Annual FREE Country Music Concert
July 25, 2008  7:00PM
Salinas Community Center  940 N. Main St
FREE  FREE  FREE

Our 2008 concert will feature some of the country's finest artists:

JOHN SINES JR. John has been performing since the age of 3. He began writing, playing guitar and put together his own band at the age of 14. His mainstream record “The Black #3” a tribute to Dale Earnhardt, was on the Country Music Billboard charts and his video aired on GAC, Great American Country television. His song “Live Another Day” is an inspiring reminder of the simple blessings that we take for granted and was #1 on the CCMA charts in August 2007. His song “Blinded Eyes” is a powerful song that tells a story of a man who doesn’t believe in the Bible and finds himself facing the biggest struggle of his life. It was #1 on the charts in December 2007.

MIKE HAMMOCK There are singers and then there are “Vocal Stylists,” they stand apart, they have a “sound” all their own. Mike’s smooth, rich baritone vocals draws his audience in from the moment he begins. This Texas cowboy has a style all his own, you can’t confuse him with anyone else. Mike was honored to receive the Award for the 2004 “Male Vocalist of the Year” and the 2006 “Entertainer of the Year” at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. He has four CDs which have produced several number one singles and numerous top ten hits. “Welcome Home Soldier” was #1 on the charts in January 2006 and over 20,000 copies have been given away to soldiers and veterans.

“BRANDED” Award winning singers/songwriters Paul Staggs and Robert Welch wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on all of their CD’s. In 2005, Robert was a nominee for “Musician of the Year” and Paul was a nominee for “Songwriter of the Year.” “BRANDED” has won the CCMA “Duo of the Year” Award in Nashville three years in a row. They have had numerous top ten songs on the charts. Their song “Simple Life” was headed to #1 but was edged out by the group called “Lonestar” ( ever heard of ’em ). The past two years, Branded has ministered in several outreaches in Russia. They received an email request to bring some cowboy hats with them so they founded “Operation Cowboy Hat” and rounded up 100 cowboy hats for Russia. The following year they took $3,000.00 worth of sound equipment for the newly founded “Western City” Cowboy Church of Russia.

JUSTIN TODD HEROD Justin spent most of his life making a living playing country music. At the age of 12 he started playing in the dark, smoke-filled bars and honky-tonks with his father and his band. It was also where he learned about the wilder side of life. Both of these experiences would become a destructive combination of an out of control life. As the nightclub life began to take its final toll, Justin found forgiveness and peace through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Since that time in 1996, Justin has had over 100 songs recorded in Nashville, Louisiana and Texas., appeared on numerous TV and radio programs, written and recorded 5 albums and toured 40 different states. His first song released to radio is the song “Raising Heaven” which shares his testimony as a honky-tonk hell-raiser whose life was changed trough Jesus Christ. Justin writes and sings about his own “real” life experiences. Some of his songs are being recorded by other artists as well. Last year Justin was nominated for the 2007 CCMA Musician of the Year and Music Evangelist of the Year. Today, Justin Pastors a small church in his home town of Palestine Texas and he is no longer just another musician, he is a minister of the gospel as well.

“MIMI PEARL” Your co-host, Bonnie Stoeberl, along with her husband Al of Christian Country Helps Ministries, have been promoting this annual concert for 9 years and have decided it’s about time they did their own hosting of their concert. “Mimi” and Al have opened the concert the last few years with a few jokes but then turned it over to a professional M/C. In March of this year, they were invited to M/C a Redneck Concert ( a hillbilly hee haw ) in Huntsville TX so they decided if they could do it for someone else they should be able to do it for their own. As Bonnie puts it, the Bible says that “Laughter Is As Medicine” so if the Lord doesn’t choose to use her for healing tonight, He’s going to use her by giving some people a good dose of medicine.

Like many artists Mary has a history of hard work and setbacks but she has the desire to continue.  She will share her stories and music from her latest CD “The Truth Cries Out”   After long hours in the studio and even longer hours of faith lessons that inspired the songs on the album, Mary has released her first full-length CD.  Does she feel adequate to be the one bringing such a message?  "I still feel like the trials are so intense that I can't keep going.  But God keeps nudging me, so I keep moving forward and not giving up." It is her obedience to God and encouragement from fellow believers that has given Mary the courage to take the stage and give the message that is on her heart.

This is probably the only event of this kind in the area that the family can attend and enjoy without paying for a ticket. When you visit one of these sponsors please tell them that you appreciate their support.

Thanks to all the folks behind the scenes that help make this possible. These include the publicity and promotion personnel, the ushers, the people who prepared and served the food for the artists, the sound system people, those who distributed the posters, those who sold raffle tickets and many more that we may have forgotten to mention here. It takes a big effort on the part of everyone to make this so successful.

In an effort to "Keep the Concert Free" we will hold a raffle during the event this year.  Click here for a photo and description of the raffle items.

The fifth annual Christian Country Music Concert held July 20 at the Sherwood Hall in Salinas during the Salinas Rodeo was a great success.  It was an incredible and awesome family-friendly concert and enjoyed by everyone who attended; including the children who were dancing the night away in front of the stage.

Both Candice Myers and Mike Hammock have again been nominated for the 2002 Male and Female vocalists of the year in the upcoming Christian Country Music Awards in November in Nashville, and Leo Johnston and the CrossCountry Band are up again for the vocal group and entertainer of the year awards.  With these three CD's and six No. 1 songs, the CrossCountry Band have numerous awards to its credit.  For the past nine years, they have performed at fairs, festivals, prisons, rodeos, cowboy churches and traditional churches.  They have also performed in North Korea and China.

Christian Country Helps Ministries would like to thank, first of all the Lord for His help in making this happen, all the sponsors for their generous donations and support, the rodeo officers and board for allowing us to present our concert during the California Rodeo Salinas and all those who attended.  You were all a blessing to us and we know that Salinas was truly blessed that night.  Our goal is to let people know and see that they don't have to give up country music if they become a Christian.
